Official and unofficial commemorations this month

*Feb 4 was national Transit Equity Day, commemorating the birthday of Rosa Parks* https://www.labor4sustainability.org/transportation/transit-equity-2026/

Feb 2-7 was Black Lives Matter at School week, https://www.blacklivesmatteratschool.com/woa.html

Feb 9-13 is Immigrant Rights Week at School https://www.instagram.com/p/DUO8mDZieii/

Feb 9-13 is Respect for All week https://www.schools.nyc.gov/school-life/school-environment/respect-for-all

Feb 16-20 Public schools are closed for mid-winter break, President’s week, also Lunar New Year

Details (+ parent teacher conference dates for March): https://www.schools.nyc.gov/calendar

Limited changes to school bus drivers and attendants may occur on Feb 9 and 23 respectively

This will be based on the workers’ mid-year ‘seniority pick’ but only at certain companies, as follows.

Companies where some Drivers switch on Feb 9; Monitors stay for a week, then switch on Feb 23 after break: All American, Bobby’s, Boro, SNT, Consolidated, Grandpa’s, Hoyt, IC Bus, Logan, Lorissa, NYCSBUS (Umbrella Services); Pioneer

Monitors only - switch Feb 26th: ANJ

Monitors only - switch Feb 9th: B-Alert

To find out whether your student’s route is changing personnel: ASK closer to Feb 6. The current driver or monitor may stay, or might not know for sure whether they are staying until then. It’s not up to the owner; this is a union perk meant to help people (those who have worked on yellow buses longest) to organize their life.

For more background and resources to help prepare your student, visit https://www.pistnyc.org/resources/upcoming-changes

Informacion en español sobre Algunos cambios de personal en el autobús son posibles el segundo y cuarto lunes de febrero, según la 'elección de antigüedad' de los trabajadores a mitad de año, pero solo en ciertas empresas, como arriba.
